Summary: This research aimed to evaluate the influence of alkaline hydrolysis on the dewatering suitability of wastewater from a UASB coding sanitary sewage and hydrolyzed algae sludge. Hydrolytic pretreatment, among the main steps used for sewage treatment and final sludge disposal, becomes indispensable when we talk about anaerobic codigestion, in order to optimize biogas production, facilitate the process of degradation of organic matter and, especially, assist in the sludge dewatering process. In this research, a pilot scale UASB reactor coding sanitary sewage and algal sludge, with previous alkaline hydrolysis processing, was operated at an average flow rate of 0.11 L / s for 370 days, producing about 1.6 kgST / day and 1.2 kgSV / day. Natural dewatering tests were promoted in a DEV and the physical, chemical and biochemical characterization of UASB sludge samples were performed. A reduction in sludge age from 98 to 64 days was obtained and the amount of free water in the samples increased from 72% to 76%. Data from the DEV dewatering test showed a reduction of only 20% of the initial volume, concluding that the pretreatment of algal biomass brought loss in the parameters used to measure sludge dewatering capacity by non-mechanized methods
