Summary: For years or years, the center of the universe was considered to be all natural resources in its disposition and treated as infinite fossils, in such a way that it took over space that fitted into nature, altering various ecosystems or that caused an environmental crisis that caused em cliff all living planet. Faced with a threat to his own survival, man saw in education a fundamental way to disseminate information that would diminish the effects caused by his unsustainable attitudes and behavior. More specifically, the so-called sustainable schools have stood out as a space conducive to the development of actions aimed at promoting with the students a continuous valuation in search of the balance between the individual and the environment. In order to find out how much the private primary and secondary schools in the city of Vitória (ES), in particular, contribute to society in the quest for the achievement of sustainability and what difficulties are encountered when trying to approach the definition of sustainable schools, if necessary a field research with the school managers, through the application of a questionnaire based on the methodology of the Eco School Program, containing some responses on the Likert scale and being validated with the application of the Cronbach alpha tool. Finally, comparing these results found with sustainable schools, we can see numerous similarities between both, which concludes that the behavior of the schools of Vitória has a great contribution to society in the search for sustainable development.
